Star Trek: The Next Generation on… Blu-ray!

If you’re into Star Trek TNG you’re probably well aware that the series’ special effects were recorded on ‘low def’ video tape thus prevented a HD release. Amazing news is that CBS have announced TNG will be released on Blu-ray in 2012. They state that the effects aren’t t simply upscaled but all new -

Visual effects will not be upconverted from videotape, but instead will be recompositioned.

Quite simply that is astounding! No idea what it’s going to cost but it’s going to be expensive – the sampler disk to be released in January has an RRP of $22 for 3 episodes. I don’t want to guess at the cost of having all 178 episodes in HD will be!

I really hope they bring out an equivalent to the Borg Cube DVD version we own! Perhaps I should eBay that one while someone still wants DVDs ;) If released it will really be time to get a HD TV!

Recent action

Those who follow my babble (there must be some as the feeds must feed something!) will have noticed my lack of posting of late. Whilst I was keen on tracking my riding I couldn’t do that as I had an operation on my toe.

This has almost recovered (well, it’s out of wrappings though this is actually down to it falling off rather than a health professional advising me) and I hope to be returning to the saddle once again.

I have decided that I need to write a better plugin for the cycling progress. It was never my intention to have post after post recording the progress but that was the best plug-in I could find. I don’t have a lot of energy at the moment so I’ll record offline then revamp the entries once I’ve sorted the plugin.

Time for a new Babbage Engine

My PC has been limping along for a long while now and whilst I did promise to buy a new one when the [in]famous Duke Nukem Forever game was released I didn’t get around to it – the game hasn’t exactly chalked up many good reviews (most of which from people who never purchased it and/or expecting something it simply was never going to be).

End of era for F1 in the UK

Those like myself in the UK who have enjoyed the BBC’s impressive coverage over the past few years will no doubt be mourning today’s announcement. From 2012 Sky will be the primary broadcaster showing all race meeting programmes with the BBC providing what can only be described as a derisory half service for FTA viewers – showing only half of the races live with the remainder as highlights later in the day.

Ride report

My friend and I haven’t been out riding together for a while but we arranged a ride out to get him reacquainted with his bike. We adjusted our normal circuit to add a welcome bit of variety taking in the sights of some more of the local villages. It wasn’t an overly long ride but offered a good couple of hours pleasure in the saddle.

We made the most of the of the great Sunday weather and I only hope the remainder of summer weather will be a little more consistent as June has been pretty poor up to now…
