Small tool released - DeskMenu.NET

DeskMenu.NET IconI don’t agree on Microsoft’s convention of hiding my desktop icons in order to make my PC look easier to use (or whatever their reasons!). I have shortcuts to perhaps 15-20 frequently used applications and another half a dozen or so on the Quick Launch toolbar next to the start menu.

Home / office chair

As I work at home regularly both in and out of ‘hours’ I’ve been feeling the effects of a bad working environment. This all stemmed from a 15 year old chair that had ran out of useful service some years ago. To remedy the situation I thought I’d try out the renowned Herman Miller Aeron chair.

Filtered Debug Viewer tech tool released

A while back I mentioned a small tool I was working on but somehow time and attention got the better of me! I’ve now dusted off the code and shipped V1.0! It’s a small AddIn for Visual Studio 2005 that allows the user to use multiple debug output windows each with a custom filter. As I’ve not spent too much time of release readiness, if you have a problem please drop me an e-mail! Happy Debugging!!

Remote Wake On LAN?

There are many reasons why you want to have remote access to a system.

Wake On Lan is a function developed by AMD back some years ago and implemented in most NICs available these days. My Intel Pro 100/1000 onboard adapter supports it and with my recent purchase (a OneClick ‘intelligent’ power extension block) it was provided the necessary ‘flea’ power so that it would be able to receive the packet. WOL is really easy if the machine you want to wake up is on the same IP subnet but what if the machine is only accessible through the Internet? Well that needn’t be a show stopper either :D

Children, a poem by Annabelle

Children are good,
Children are bad,
Children are a handful,
But sometimes you’ll feel glad

Children are lovely,
Children are horrible,
Children have tantrums,
But they can make you giggle

Children are sweet,
Children are kind,
Children are menaces,
Whatever your children are just be glad you’ve got them!
