The VGA version of Leisure Suit Larry in The Land of the Lounge Lizards was simply a remake of the first version but now upgraded to use Sierra's SCI engine. This engine offered 256 colour VGA graphics, much improved over the 16 colour EGA, and sound using a number of industry standard cards.

Personally speaking, instead of improving the game, I felt that Sierra had taken a little something away. The plot was left untouched which was fine in itself but the 'random' responses to ad-hoc typing had been removed (the EGA version had a text parser) and replaced with a much more strict and focused repsonse based on a limited action (the active icon). Whatever was felt about the game itself, it was a huge transformation in terms of visual and audible presentation. In 1991 this was cutting edge and to be honest it still doesn't look too shabby today!

It went on to sell around a half million copies which for remake of a remake is no small number.

Larry, Mr Larry Laffer, a 40 something all American male, started his adventuring life in the Land of The Lounge Lizards. He has one simple objective - to lose his virginity by sundown and the clock is ticking...

The time is already 22.00 and armed with $94 and a breath spray, Larry has the delights of Lost Wages to explore in his quest to find a woman willing to share a bed with him. Good luck Larry - you'll be needing it!

Lost Wages is a grim place - one can only guess (not terribly difficult) where the inspiration for the name and locations came from! Lefty's bar is Larry's start location, outside where it's dark and not very friendly. Just try popping round the side of the bar - watch out for the thugs - definitely not a place for tourists!
