Computer Kit

I was once known for being a bit of a hardware junkie but in the last 5 years that’s changed (a lot!). In fact, I hardly ever buy anything for my PC and consequently it was showing its age. Back in June 2005 I sorted myself out with a new setup:

  • Asus P4C800-E with ASUS CT-479 CPU adaptor
  • Pentium M 760 (2Ghz) – yep, it’s a laptop CPU in a desktop chassis!
  • 2048MB PC3700 Crucial DDR400 RAM
  • Inno3D GeForce 6200 (unfortunately the 7600GT bit the dust)
  • Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
  • Adaptec 29160U160 SCSI Controller
  • Seagate 320GB SATA
  • Pioneer U05S DVD-ROM
  • Lite-On 1693S (DVD-RW/DL)
  • Suntek Grace Aluminium ATX case
  • Enermax 350W Quiet PSU
  • Netgear DG934 ADSL Router
  • Altec Lansing 5100S 5.1 speaker system
  • Microsoft SideWinder Wheel (Force Feedback) USB
  • Microsoft ForceFeedback 2 USB Joystick
  • Microsoft USB IntelliMouse Optical (Special Silver Edition)
  • HP Laserjet 4 with Emulex NetJet LAN printserver
  • TDK CD/DVD Label Printer
  • Wacom Volito Tablet

I personally feel that there’s little point in upgrading anymore. Over the past few years the PC has become a poor gaming platform and apart from ‘the’ beheamouth operating system (Vista), which I’ve zero intention of running, my PC runs all application well enough. Gaming on a PC is now overshadowed by DRM, console ports and casual games – none of which interest me at all!
