Back from several hours with a [very good] friend and the amplifier seems to be more or less behaving itself. That is to say it's been used for around 6 hours and not gone into protect mode. There was a bad joint under one a small capacitor on the PSU board and one of the large capacitors looked a bit domed. There still remains an issue where the unit will not power on correctly (relay switching on/off for a while) but once something latches it's OK in standby. Will try to get a service manual from TEAC in order to diagnose this further and I'll post an update with details of what is found!

There is now a beta of the utility available from the Sourceforge site. The installer isn't how I'd have done it but it works. Report any issues to the Sourceforge forum or even the Sparx Systems forum.

The amplifier has recently failed. Powering on it displays 'Protect' before shutting off again. I left it powered off for an evening and then it wouldn't switch on at all (it was continuosly trying mind you). I'm guessing it's a fault with the PSU but I'll try to get a friend to look at it. Shame the amp was the best bit about this system!

Having changed ISPs I'm now using a different router. Like the D-Link the new one didn't have direct support for WOL. However after adding support for telnet access and performing similar steps the new one is just as useful!

Just a quick one on the cd printer review. I’ve just finished my 1st cartridge and decided to take it apart - as I do with most things :)

I got a total of 50 ‘prints’ out of the cartridge. The design would appear so that no matter how much of the available area you print it always winds on the same amount of tape - what a waste. So if you were to print top & bottom labels on each CD you will only get 25 per cartridge. At prices ranging anything from £6.50 to £9 a replacement I think this is makes it a pretty expensive way of labelling CDs… seems to me like yet another consumables scam - shame on you TDK
