Winter is definitely coming

Although I’ve had quite a bit of spare time lately I’ve not felt like using the bike much. This time last year we had snow, lots of snow, and whilst this year is nothing like as bad, I’ve concluded that a lack of Winter kit is the primary reason for my lack of mileage.

Anyone who’s interested in cycling will quickly agree that kitting oneself for all seasons whilst not cheap, is necessary.

My normal, now deemed Summer, kit comprises of a road bike, SPD-SL shoes, 2 pairs of bib shorts, 2 jerseys and a set of gloves. Unfortunately, none of that is really suitable for the colder periods :| In order to keep riding I’ve put together some Winter kit with an existing pair of SPD shoes, a set of Roubaix bib leggings, full finger windproof gloves, a couple of waterproof jackets, and a skull cap (although that one has not actually arrived as yet). The bike has also been swapped over for a hybrid sporting slightly wider tyres with edge nobblies and has been equipped with a Smart Lunar 35 light set.

I’ve done a couple of short rides using the Winter kit and have found it to be enough for current temperatures. I’ve yet to experience sub zero readings so I may yet find the kit list will require further adjustment. I’ll probably write a couple of reviews based on my purchases once they’ve been used a bit. One purchase that has provided instant gratification is the bib leggings from Tenn Outdoors.
